Yep, you read that right. Every single Cortaire paddle sold protects 20 real, live bees in Kenya. Not a donation. Not a percentage. Twenty bees. Per paddle. Every time. That's the deal — and honestly, we think it's pretty spectacular.

We've partnered with Greenspark and the EarthLungs Bee Hive Project in Mombasa, Kenya — and we're genuinely obsessed with what they're doing out there. Let us tell you about it.

So what actually happens out there?

EarthLungs builds custom beehives from scratch in Mteza Creek, Mombasa — each one carefully baited with a queen bee (because of course it starts with a queen 👑). The drones, nurses, and worker bees follow, a colony forms, and eventually the whole hive moves to its permanent home in the forest. A tiny, buzzing city in the trees. Bee spectacular, honestly.

But why bees? What's the big deal?

We'll be straight with you — bees are not optional. They pollinate 1 in 3 bites of food we eat. Without them, ecosystems collapse. Crops fail. Forests thin out. It's not dramatic to say bees are holding the planet together — it's just science.

In Kenya specifically, these hives do something extra brilliant: the activity around the beehives deters poachers and illegal logging. The bees are literally protecting the forest just by existing. Legend behaviour. Very Cortaire energy. 🖤

And what about the people?

This is where it gets really good. Each hive produces around 20kg of honey per year, plus propolis and royal jelly — all sold by local Kenyan communities who manage the hives. It gives families real, sustainable income without destroying the land around them. Less logging. More honey. More thriving. Stay buzzin, Kenya. 🐝

Why does Cortaire care about this?

Because we designed paddles with intention — and we think a brand should stand for something bigger than a product. It felt pretty fitting that a brand rooted in boldness, wildness, and being unapologetically yourself would back creatures that literally sting anyone who gets in their way and build extraordinary things together.
